How can you tell if your open source project is on the right track?

April 3, 2006

I think the easiest way to tell is when you find entrepreneurs starting businesses around your software.  Take for example the Asterisk IP-PBX (released by Digium under teh GPL).  Erik Lagerway of TMC points us to a new start-up called iotum who just released a new integration module.  Check out iotum’s blog.  Erik says it best:

For the more than 250,000 Asterisk IP-PBX installations around-the-world, getting the right phone call, at the right time, and on the right device just got easier thanks to iotum. Today, at VON Canada in Toronto, iotum announced the beta availability of the iotum Asterisk integration module; two relevance-enabled call management applications for Asterisk and a rich new set of developer API’s.

Our Big in Japan team has integrated Asterisk inside of PodServe so you can say they are a part of the proof that Asterisk is going places.  Other businesses with Asterisk-based success include: IBM, IPsando, Aheeva, VoIP Reach, Vonik, Go2Call, SwitchVox, Verso, Inveneo, TransNexus, LocustWorld, and Dash911.
